The Isegahama stable is always looking for new members to help shape the future of Japan's national sport, Sumo.
We value such genuine feelings as "I love sumo," "I want to become stronger," and "I want to challenge a new world. No experience is necessary. What is important is the will to move forward.
Even though our training is rigorous, we provide an environment where you can learn human courtesy and consideration, and grow as both a rikishi and a human being.

Rules for Entrance Screening

A male under 23 years of age who has completed his compulsory education and has passed a medical examination and a new apprentice examination must be registered as a rikishi.
A new apprentice who meets the following physical standards shall pass the new apprentice inspection.

167cm or taller
Body weight
67 kg or more
Entry age
Post-secondary school graduates to under 23 years old
Health Condition
Persons who have passed a predetermined health examination
  • However, only those who are expected to graduate from junior high school and take the new apprentice examination for the March tournament will be accepted if they are 165 centimeters or taller.
  • Those who do not meet the physique standards at the time of inspection will take the second test for new apprentices and, if their athletic ability is deemed satisfactory, they will pass.

  • After observing a practice session and experiencing a practice session, you will be admitted to our school after you are satisfied with the results.
  • We will conduct a careful interview prior to the start of the program to ensure that there are no concerns.
  • After entering the program, the master and proprietress take the place of the parents and warmly watch over the students and support their growth.
  • Minors must have the approval of a parent or guardian.

We want to nurture wrestlers who will shine in the future.

The Isegahama stable is a place where one can learn about Japanese culture and etiquette through sumo, while carrying on tradition and dignity.
In taking care of your precious children, senior rikishi and masters will closely monitor their daily lives and provide careful support for their diet, health, and lifestyle.

We also plan to establish sumo clubs for the Isegahama stable throughout Japan in the future. We will continue to create an environment where future generations of children can aspire to become sumo wrestlers.
For children who wish to obtain a high school or college degree after entering the program, we can introduce them to schools they can attend while training.
