Weaving Tradition into the Future
--The Trajectory of the Isegahama Room--

The Isegahama stable was founded by Kiyosegawa, a former sekiwake who retired after the September 1929 tournament, under the name of Isegahama V, with his uchi-deshi from the Tateyama stable. The 5th generation trained yokozuna Terukuni and flat-rock champion Bishu-zan.

Over the years, the stable has produced a number of sekitori and has established a solid presence in the sumo world. In 2007, the stable reached a new milestone. Masaya Isegahama, the 63rd yokozuna Asahifuji, took over the name of the sumo stable and assumed the title of Isegahama IX. The Isegahama stable once again took on the name and began its path of re-establishment.

Isegahama IX was also an outstandingly skilled master. In 2012, Hima Fushi was promoted to the 70th yokozuna, and in 2013, he absorbed the Maki stable, and in 2015, the Asahiyama stable. In 2012, Hima was promoted to the 70th yokozuna, and in 2013, he absorbed the Maki stable, and in 2015, the Asahiyama stable, growing into a major yokozuna with a tradition that has been passed down through the generations.

In 2021, Terunofuji was promoted to the 73rd yokozuna. His rise to the top after overcoming injury was an inspiration to many. In 2025, Terunofuji succeeded as the 10th Isegahama and officially took over the stable, following in the footsteps of his mentor, Masaya Isegahama. The Isegahama stable, which has spun a long history, is now moving into a new era.
